Kanu has been detained in Kuje prison after a he was granted bail by a Chief Magistrate in Wuse Zone 2 Abuja and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court.
He was later denied bail by Justice John Tsoho after the Ademola disqualified himself from the matter.
Justice Tsoho while giving his ruling then, ordered that Kanu be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the conclusion of his trial.
Before the hearing today, November 8, the IPOB in a analysis condemned the charges against Kanu.
The group also said the charges had no basis as the prosecuting agency, DSS, had no legal backing from the Nigerian Constitution.
The analysis done by Barrister Emma Nmezu said: “There is no place in any of the existing laws of Nigeria and the Constitution where the name or title or phrase ”Department of State Services (DSS)” can be found. Therefore, DSS is both illegal and unconstitutional.”
Among the charges against the IPOB leader include treasonable felony, an offence contrary to section 516 of the Criminal Code Act Cap. C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014 and punishable under the same section of the Act, the Department of States Services said.
Others are the managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter and improper importation of goods.
